Former Skynyrd "Honkette" Dies

JoJo Billingsley sadly passes away aged 58

JoJo Billingsley, former backing vocalist with Lynyrd Skynyrd, has died aged 58.

Billingsley was a member of Skynyrd between 1975 to 1977. Along with Cassie Gaines and Leslie Hawkins she joined as a backing vocalist, and the trio became know as the Honkettes.

Billingsley was not aboard the ill-fated flight in 1977 that killed fellow Honkette Cassie Gaines and the other band members and road crew due to the fact that she claims she had had a dream two days prior to the crash which warned her not to board the plane. She says that she tried to stop the others from boarding the plane. After the crash she became a born again Christian.

She reunited with former Skynyrd members Ed King, Artimus Pyle and Leslie Hawkins in the Saturday Night Special Band which formed to raise money for victims of Hurricane Katrina in 2005, and in 2006 she performed with Skynyrd one more time at their induction into the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame.

However, at the weekend JoJo lost a battle with cancer and sadly died aged 58.
