Former Fleetwood Mac Guitarist Dies

Bob Weston sadly passes away aged 64

Published 6th Jan 2012

Weston replaced Danny Kirwan in the band in 1972, and he went on to become a songwriter for Fleetwood Mac, contributing tracks to the albums Penguin and Mystery To Me.

However, his affair with Mick Fleetwood's wife Jenny Boyd sadly overshadowed his musical contributions. The band were mid-way through their US tour in 1973 when the affair was revealed and after Weston was fired from the band. Fleetwood Mac immediately went on hiatus. This hiatus prompted the infamous "Bogus Fleetwood Mac" incident in which the band's manager sent a band of unknown musicians out on tour as an official Fleetwood Mac band, leading to years of bitter legal battles. Weston's direct replacement in Fleetwood Mac in 1974 would go on to be a certain Lindsey Buckingham.

Weston pursued a solo career following his departure from the band as well as working with a number of other musicians (including Sandy Denny and his predecessor in Fleetwood Mac Danny Kirwan on the 1979 album Hello There Big Boy!)

He was also due to start recording an album with former Rolling Stone Mick Taylor in the next few weeks.

RIP Bob Weston, 1947 - 2012
