Foo Fighters reveal identity of 'biggest pop star in the world' singing on 'Concrete & Gold'
Dave Grohl has revealed the identity of the mystery pop star who has made a guest appearance on Foo Fighters' new album ‘Concrete & Gold’.
In an interview with the BBC back in June, Dave promised that “the biggest pop star in the world” has provided backing vocals on “one of the heaviest songs on the record” and names that immediately bounded around the rumour mill included Adele, Ed Sheeran, Justin Bieber, Taylor Swift and Katy Perry.
Having previously confirmed Sir Paul McCartney of The Beatles fame and Shawn Stockman of nineties soul R&B vocal harmony group Boyz II Men for the record, Dave has finally revealed that the pop star in question is Justin Timberlake.
Explaining that their paths crossed at the highly populated EastWest Studios in Hollywood, Dave told Rolling Stone: "We'd drink whiskey in the parking lot.
"(Justin) was really, really cool. Then the night before his last day, he says, 'Can I sing on your record? I don't want to push it, but – I just want to be able to tell my friends.'
"So the band had him add some ‘la la la's’ to one track. He nailed it. I'm telling you – the guy's going somewhere."
It’s being reported that the track Timberlake lent his vocals to is album closer and title track ‘Concrete and Gold’ – the same song Shawn Stockman sings on that, according to Dave, “sounds like if (Black) Sabbath and Pink Floyd made (music together).”
Elsewhere in the Rolling Stone interview, Dave fought back tears as he spoke about Chris Cornell’s death.
"I loved him," Dave said. "He was a really sweet guy. Full of life. And he had so much to offer. That one hurt. Over the years you sort of count your blessings that you survived, and when you see another one go down.
"I felt for his family and I felt for his band, you know? Because that's a long road, man."
Described by Dave as a “gigantic rock record”, ‘Concrete and Gold’ is released on Friday 15th September.
The track-listing is as follows:
