Foo Fighters will play an ultra-intimate show to just 450 people next month.
The Foo Fighters’ concert takes place on Tuesday 30th May, and it’s the inaugural show at a new venue called The Atlantis in Washington DC.
The 450-capacity venue is being built as a replica of the original 9:30 Club that launched 44 years ago in the US capital. The 9:30 was a pivotal venue in the D.C. punk and hardcore scene of the 1980s, in which a teenage Dave Grohl saw "hundreds" of influential artists, and even played there with one of his early bands.
In keeping with this 44-year milestone, The Atlantis will host an initial run of 44 shows over four months with tickets costing $44 each. In a bid to combat ticket touts, tickets will be allocated via a lottery system here, with resale barred except through a fan-to-fan face-value exchange.
After Dave Grohl and co. get things kicked off on 30th May, the venue will host performances from Billy Idol, Pixies, Clutch, Bush, Joan Jett, Living Colour, Gary Clark Jr., The Struts and many more.
The Foo Fighters performance in Washington DC will be only their fourth full show since the death of drummer Taylor Hawkins in March 2022.
Since confirming they were continuing as a band in a New Year’s Eve message to fans, Foo Fighters have confirmed headline festival appearances in the United States, Germany, Japan and Brazil.
Alongside the intimate Washington gig, they're also playing three standalone headline shows in North America this summer.
Sadly there aren’t any UK shows as part of Foo Fighters’ touring itinerary. The band’s headline performances at Germany’s Rock am Ring on Friday 2nd June and Rock im Park on Sunday 4th June are their only European shows of 2023.
In September 2022, Foo Fighters headlined two star-studded Taylor Hawkins Tribute Concerts at London Wembley Stadium and Los Angeles Kia Forum.
It’s currently unclear who, if anyone, will be replacing Taylor Hawkins behind the drum kit. The Darkness’ Rufus Taylor and renowned session drummer Josh Freese are among the names being discussed by fans.
