Fleetwood Mac and Queen albums among the best-selling of 2024 so far
Despite the bands being inactive
Last updated 3rd Oct 2024
Although they haven’t released a studio album in decades, Fleetwood Mac and Queen have both scored some of the best-selling records of 2024 so far.
The Official Charts Company has published a list today (2nd October) of The 40 Biggest Albums of 2024 So Far, based on physical and digital sales together with streaming equivalent units.
Now technically defunct in the wake of Christine McVie’s untimely death in 2022, Fleetwood Mac have two albums in the countdown – 2018 greatest hits compilation ‘50 Years – Don’t Stop’ at No.6 and their all-conquering 1977 album ‘Rumours’ at No.26.
Queen’s blockbuster ‘Greatest Hits’ collection, which is already the best-selling album of all time in the UK with more than 7 million copies sold, continues to shift units and is the 23rd biggest album of the year.
Keen Darkness aficionado Taylor Swift is at Number 1 on the list with ‘The Tortured Poet’s Department,’ which has physical sales of 265,000 of a total of 667,500.
Although the upper echelons of the chart are dominated by pop and hip-hop artists, Linkin Park have dented the Top 40 at No.38 with ‘Papercuts: Singles Collection 2000-2023.’
Fellow recently reunited band Oasis have three entries in the Top 40 – ‘Time Flies 1994 – 2009’ (No.7), ‘Definitely Maybe’ (No. 18) and ‘What’s The Story Morning Glory?’ (No.27)
Other legacy artists on the Top 40 include ABBA, Elton John, Michael Jackson and Bob Marley.
