Fleetwood Mac, AC/DC and Queen make UK's most-streamed songs of 1952 to 2022 list
Marking the 70th anniversary of the Official Singles Chart
Classic rock tracks by AC/DC, Fleetwood Mac, Queen, Bon Jovi and Journey have made the Official Charts Company’s list of the UK’s most-streamed songs of 1952 to 2022.
To celebrate the 70th anniversary of the Official Singles Chart, a list has been revealed featuring the biggest streaming hit for every year since the chart's inception in 1952.
In terms of genre, rock music is extremely well represented among the 70 songs from the offset with Little Richard ‘Tutti Frutti’ (1955), Elvis Presley’s ‘Jailhouse Rock’ (1957) and Chuck Berry’s ‘Johnny B Goode’ (1958) each being named a most-streamed track in the first decade.
Queen have three songs on the list with ‘Bohemian Rhapsody’ (1975), ‘Don’t Stop Me Now’ (1979) and ‘Another One Bites The Dust’ (1980), while Fleetwood Mac also have a trio of most-streamed tracks, ‘Go Your Own Way’ (1976), ‘Dreams’ (1977) and ‘Everywhere’ (1988).
Other rock song on the most-streamed list are Bon Jovi’s ‘Livin’ On A Prayer’ (1986), Journey’s ‘Don’t Stop Believin’ (1981), AC/DC’s ‘Thunderstruck’ (1990), Nickelback’s ‘How You Remind Me’ (2001), Lynyrd Skynyrd’s ‘Sweet Home Alabama’ (1974) and Bryan Adams’ ‘Summer of 69’ (1985).
Despite Bryan Adams’ ‘Everything I Do (I Do It For You)’ topping the chart for a record-breaking 16 weeks in 1991, Nirvana’s ‘Smells Like Teen Spirit’ is the most played track of that year on streaming services.
The Beatles’ only track on the list is ‘Here Comes The Sun’, which was never released as a single in the UK.
