Fish to perform Marillion’s ‘Clutching at Straws’ and his new album on 2017 tour

To celebrate its 30th anniversary, Fish will be performing Marillion’s fourth studio album ‘Clutching at Straws’ in full on tour this year.

In a lengthy post on his official Facebook page, the singer – real name Derek Dick – confirmed that the 10-date run this December will be his only UK shows of 2017.

As well as performing ‘Clutching At Straws’ in its entirety following the success of his ‘Misplaced Childhood’ shows, Fish will be playing tracks from his upcoming studio album ‘Weltschmerz’ that he’s recording this year.

Fish will once again be joining forces with Marillion/Iron Maiden/Judas Priest artist Mark Wilkinson for the cover and says he will only release the record once he’s completely happy with the music.

“The most important project this year is the ‘Weltschmerz’ album,” Fish writes. “Mark Wilkinson already has images in mind; I have the seeds of a couple of lyrics, Steve Vantsis is primed and there are a couple of musicians in the wings that could play influential roles.

“I now have to start bringing it all together. I’m sure this is going to be an interesting year and the time is right for the subject matter. It has to be special and as you know well from my history this album won’t be released until I am sure it is.”

Certain to be potent in subject matter, the word ‘Weltschmerz’ was coined by the 18th Century German writer Jean Paul to describe a ‘feeling of apathy caused by the sadness about life when seeing the evils of the world.’
