Faces, GNR Inducted Into Hall Of Fame

Axl Rose's no show at the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame induction at the weekend was expected after his lengthy letter to the organisers over the weekend, while Izzy Stradlin had already revealed he wouldn't be turning up. However, Slash, Duff McKagan, Gilby Clarke and drummers Steven Adler and Matt Sorum were on hand to be inducted at Saturday night's ceremony.

After being presented with their induction by Green Day, the band played a trio of songs ('Mr Brownstone', 'Sweet Child O' Mine' and 'Paradise City') with Myles Kennedy taking on vocals.

Meanwhile, Rod Stewart also failed to show after contracting the flu just a couple of days prior to the event (it's the second time he's missed his own induction to the Hall Of Fame after an earthquake in LA in 1994 meant he couldn't be inducted for his solo work). The remaining members of the band flew in Simply Red's Mick Hucknall to sing with them at the ceremony, though, as they played the Small Faces' "All or Nothing" along with Faces staples "Ooh La La" and "Stay With Me." They paid tribute to their late bandmates Ronnie Lane and Steve Marriott as they received their induction.

ZZ Top's Billy Gibbons and Dusty Hill joined forces with Derek Trucks and Joe Bonamassa for a Freddie King salute of "Hideaway" and "Goin' Down" while Donovan capped his three-song set by dueting with John Mellencamp on "Season of the Witch.".

The Red Hot Chili Peppers closed the five and a half hour ceremony with a short set of "By the Way," recent hit "The Adventures of Rain Dance Maggie" and a rendition of "Give It Away" before leading an all-star performance of Stevie Wonder's "Higher Ground" featuring Slash, Green Day's Billy Joe Armstrong, Ronnie Wood and Kenney Jones.
