Randy Rhoads’ family up in arms over documentary and book
The family of Randy Rhoads are taking legal action after a catalogue of issues surrounding a planned documentary and the recent publication of a book about the late Ozzy Osbourne guitarist. According to Nancy B Sayle from VQPR, publicist for the Rhoads family, they never gave their official authorisation for the recent publication of coffee table book called simply ‘Randy Rhoads’, and are unhappy with the documentary, which has never been released.
Blabbermouth reports that authors Peter Margolis, Andrew Klein and the publishing company Velocity Publishing Group Inc. plus co-author Steven Rosen are all being sued by Rhoads’ mother Delores and his siblings Kathryn Rhoads D’Argenzio and Kelle Rhoads. They claim they never gave their approval to the book and that the documentary was ‘mediocre’.
They also say that in 2007, Peter Margolis entered into an agreement with the family to produce a documentary and that it would be completed within three years. They say the producers stole materials, falsely implied that the Rhoads family supported the projects and that the book contained more than fifty instances in which photos and materials had been used without permission.
Randy Rhoads died in a plane crash in 1982, while on tour with Ozzy Osbourne. He was 25.
