Pop megastar Dua Lipa kicked off her Australian tour on Monday night (17th March) with a cover of AC/DC’s seminal anthem ‘Highway to Hell.’

The 29-year-old English / Albanian singer performed ‘Highway to Hell’ in homage to ‘local artist’ AC/DC eight songs into her sold-out show at the Rod Laver Arena in Melbourne.

Introducing the cover, Dua Lipa said: “Another fun, crazy idea that I thought for this show, I thought ‘why don’t I do a new song every night, something different?’ I thought ‘let’s do a local artist in every place we’re in.’

“So, obviously, Australia has an abundance of amazing musicians, so we just thought we’d go really, really big from the very beginning (of the tour). If you know it, sing it!”

Dua Lipa then proceeded to belt out the Bon Scott era classic ‘Highway to Hell’ while surrounded by her band in the middle of the arena. It was the first time she has covered the song.

Praising the performance, one viewer wrote: “It’s fantastic! I’m a huge AC/DC fan and have been for 45 years. She did a great job at keeping AC/dc going. Who knows, she might have even brought on some new fans to their incredible music. That is a good thing in my book.”

Another wrote: “She surprised me with how powerful a rock tone her voice has. She could genuinely make a career out of it.”

A less enthusiastic YouTube viewer commented: “Stick to your own crap. You can't beat the classics, only destroy them.”

AC/DC play a sold-out show at Edinburgh Scottish Gas Murrayfield stadium on Thursday 21st August 2025, the final date of their summer European tour.
