Dokken's Don Dokken has covered Celine Dion's 'My Heart Will Go On'

The titular Dokken frontman and founder has announced plans to re-release his 2008 solo album ‘Solitary’, which was only previously available to buy at live shows and later digitally in 2014.

For its first ‘proper’ release this summer, Dokken told Focus On Metal he has recorded three extra songs to expand ‘Solitary’ to 12 tracks.

Dokken explained his “Don Dokken-ized” version of ‘My Heart Will Go On’ and another song called 'All Love Can Be' were both recorded as a tribute to his friend, Oscar-winning composer James Horner, who died in a plane crash in 2015.

He explained (via Blabbermouth): "We're gonna put out my solo record for the summer, 'Solitary', which never was (officially) released.

"I wrote that thing eight years ago and I added three more songs to it to make it a 12-song CD. I did three new songs. They're not 'new' songs — they're covers — but they're really beautiful.

“I did the 'Titanic' song by Celine Dion. I redid it, which is, like… Everybody said nobody can do the 'Titanic' song, 'cause you can't compete with that version; it's brilliant. But I Don Dokken-ized it. And I did a song called 'Jealous' by (British R&B artist) Labrinth; I redid that. And I played the piano on that and sang it, and that came out really beautiful.

“And 'All Love Can Be', also written by the same person (James Horner) that wrote the 'Titanic' song. 'Cause he passed away — the writer — he was killed in a plane crash, a famous composer.

“So it's kind of a tribute. He was a friend of mine. We were the same age; our birthdays were a month apart. So it's a bit of an homage to him, with the exception of the song 'Jealous'."

‘Solitary’ was the follow-up to Don Dokken’s 1990 debut album ‘Up from the Ashes’.

Dokken’s last UK show took place at Ramblin’ Man Fair back in July 2017.
