Def Leppard’s Phil Collen ‘confirms’ Hysteria 30th anniversary shows

After Joe Elliott teased “something spectacular” for 2018 in Planet Rock’s 'Hysteria' Q&A last week, Phil Collen has now seemingly let the cat out of the bag.

Appearing on Sex Pistols guitarist Steve Jones’ US radio show Jonesy’s Jukebox, Phil was asked the burning question about whether they’re planning to take ‘Hysteria’ on the road and perform it in its entirety.

Affirmative in his answer, Phil responded: “We are. I know it’ll be next year we’re gonna go on tour. We’re getting some offers to play the whole album all the way through. So, yeah, we’ll be doing that.”

Speaking at our special Q&A to celebrate the 30th anniversary of ‘Hysteria’ last week, Planet Rock’s very own Joe Elliott was a bit more non-committal when asked the same question, saying “Watch this space…”

Returning to the subject at the end of the session, Joe said: “There are going to be shows next year (2018), there’s probably going to be shows in the UK and they may feature an iconic album in total or they might not. We’ll have to wait and see!”

He added: “I’m old school, I like to keep secrets. I hate Twitter, I don’t do Facebook. I’m old school, I give news to the (Def Leppard) website (editor) and let him deal with it y’know.

“But we’ll wait and see y’know, I’m not going to lead anyone up the garden path other than ‘maybe’. Maybe we will do something very spectacular in the UK next year.”

The following day, he echoed the tease on Ian Danter’s show, saying: “We are possibly going to play some very special shows in the UK next year.”
