Def Leppard and Ghost on course for high UK album chart entries

Def Leppard and Ghost are both on course for high entries on the UK album chart with their latest releases.

According to the Official Charts Company, Def Leppard’s orchestral album ‘Drastic Symphonies’ with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra is currently sitting pretty at Number 2 at the midweek stage.

Released to acclaim last Friday, ‘Drastic Symphonies’ features deconstructed and rebuilt orchestral versions of Def Leppard’s biggest hits and some of their hidden gems.

Elsewhere on the midweek album, enigmatic masked rockers Sleep Token are at No.3 with their third studio album ‘Take Me Back to Eden’.

Not too close behind at Number 4 are Swedish rock icons Ghost with their five-track covers EP, ‘Phantomime.’

Ghost’s EP features covers of Genesis’ ‘Jesus He Knows Me’, Iron Maiden’s ‘Phantom of the Opera’, Tina Turner’s ‘We Don't Need Another Hero (Thunderdome)’, The Stranglers’ ‘Hanging Around’ and Television’s ‘See No Evil.’

Just outside the Top 5 at Number 6 are progressive rock legends YES with their 23rd studio album ‘Mirror to the Sky’ – their first release since the passing of drummer Alan White a year ago.

Despite there being four rock albums in the upper echelons of the midweek chart, it’s unlikely any of them will trouble the current Number 1 Lewis Capaldi who is heavily his nearest chart rivals with ‘Broken By Desire To Be Heavenly Sent.’

Def Leppard kicked off their co-headline European tour with Mötley Crüe at Sheffield’s Bramall Lane stadium last night (22nd May). You can check out photos from the concert below.

Back in January, Def Leppard frontman and Planet Rock presenter Joe Elliott joined forces with Ghost on a new version of their ‘Impera’ track ‘Spillways.’
