AC/DC aficionado Gina Di Lecce launched the Change.org petition earlier this month calling for Angus Young and co. to play the 55th Super Bowl halftime show at Raymond James Stadium in Tampa, Florida on 7th February 2021.

“It’s been a while since we’ve had some real metal play the half-time show for the Super Bowl,” Di Leece writes in the petition.

“Don’t get me wrong, all music artists have done a great job and should play the show, but we all need a turn. It’s time for some rock and roll! And who better than AC/DC to play?

“They are coming back together, making a new album and possibly touring again. This would be perfect! Come together, metalheads and get this going! Dee Snider of Twisted Sister is with us!”

The campaign quickly caught the attention of former Twisted Sister frontman Dee Snider, who has been actively promoting it on social media.

Yesterday (Tuesday 18th February), the petition smashed the 20,000 signatures barrier and it shows no sign of slowing down.

As well as publicly backing the campaign on Twitter, Dee Snider has also posted a video message on Instagram addressed to NFL commissioner Roger Goodell and rapper Jay-Z, whose Roc Nation imprint has a partnership with the NFL.

Explaining why he is backing the campaign, Dee Snider says: “There are a lot of bands that are stadium worthy and a lot of bands that have sold hundreds of millions of records, but the one band that I think has such crossover appeal to so many people in all genres is AC/DC.”

“You play so many of their songs at every single game – and the band is reuniting with a new album, they’re going to be touring again and they would bring down the house.”

The last rock band to perform at the Super Bowl halftime show was Red Hot Chili Peppers in 2014, however they were merely special guests to Bruno Mars.

The Who headlined the 2010 halftime show in Florida playing ‘Pinball Wizard’, ‘Baba O'Riley’, ‘Who Are You’, ‘See Me, Feel Me’ and ‘Won't Get Fooled Again’.

AC/DC are rumoured to be touring this year with Brian Johnson back on vocals. It’s also claimed they’re releasing a new studio album in the late-great Malcolm Young’s memory. As always, there has been no official word from AC/DC’s camp on the speculation.
