Dave Grohl surprise performs Nirvana's 'In Bloom' with jazz collective
Foo Fighters singer Dave Grohl has performed a unique version of Nirvana’s ‘In Bloom’ with jazz collective Trombone Shorty & Orleans Avenue.
Dave made his surprise appearance during Trombone Shorty and his band Orleans Avenue’s headline performance at the Voodoo Threauxdown festival at The Greek Theatre in Los Angeles on Saturday night (15th September).
To massive cheers from the 6,000 capacity crowd, Dave performed drums on the jazz interpretation of the 1992 ‘Nevermind’ track with the titular Trombone Shorty taking on Kurt Cobain’s vocals with his trombone.

The collaboration on Saturday night marked only the second time Dave Grohl has performed ‘In Bloom’ since Kurt Cobain’s death in 1994.
Dave previously played the track at the surviving Nirvana members’ secret gig at Brooklyn club Saint Vitus following their Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction in April 2014. Joan Jett took on vocal duties on that occasion.
Trombone Shorty appeared on the New Orleans episode of Foo Fighters’ Sonic Highways miniseries in 2014 where he discussed the city’s unique musical heritage.
