The NME Awards took place last night and Dave Grohl found himself under the spotlight as he collected his Godlike Genius Award.

NME reports that Grohl took to the stage as a host of musicians and stars including Paul McCartney, Jack Black, Josh Homme and John Paul Jones paid tribute in a video montage.

After soaking up the applause he told the audience "You guys realise they gave this one to a drummer, right? This one's for the drummers!"

"Oh, and by the way, the asked us to play tonight and we thought, 'Yeah, ok sure'. And they said, 'Why don't you do four or five songs?' and I said, 'Fuck that, why don't we play for two fuckin' hours!' And I also said, 'Why don't we play a song with an actual godlike genius, Mr Roger Daltrey?'"

His band then took to the stage to play 'Young Man Blues' with Daltrey.

You will be able to see some highlights from the ceremony at 11.25am this Saturday on Channel 4.
