Corey Taylor premieres 'Beyond' video and details 'CMF2' solo album
New solo music from the Slipknot and Stone Sour man
Slipknot and Stone Sour frontman Corey Taylor will release his second solo album ‘CMF2’ on Friday 15th September 2023 via Decibel Cooper/BMG.
Featuring 13 songs, ‘CMF2’ is the follow-up to Corey Taylor debut album ‘CMFT’, which was released to acclaim in October 2020.
“My first solo album was kind of where I was coming from. This album is more where we're going,” comments Corey Taylor.
Reflecting on producer Jay Ruston, who helmed ‘CMFT’ and Stone Sour’s 2017 album ‘Hydrograd’, Corey added: “Together we have great ideas, great energy, and are quick to try everything. We’re not afraid to tell each other if it’s a good idea, or also a bad one; we have that kind of trust.”
As a taster for ‘CMF2’, Corey Taylor has premiered lead single ‘Beyond’ and its accompanying video filmed in California’s Mojave Desert with director Dale 'Rage' Resteghini (Hatebreed, Five Finger Death Punch, Trivium).

Commenting on ‘Beyond’, which originates from 17 years ago, Corey Taylor says: “I originally wrote it as an aggressive romantic song, but I'm also looking at it now as a kind of ‘come together’ song. Bringing the masses together, and letting them know that I want my music to take them beyond what they may think about me.
“Maybe they’ve had a misconception about me. It’s not exactly a calling card, more like throwing the bat signal up and being ‘alright, let's turn everything on its head.’ It’s almost a dual threat, because now I look at it from two standpoints.”
Speaking to NME in February about ‘CMFT2’, Corey said is “bigger” and “better” than his debut and also takes “darker, heavier” tone.
“I can’t wait for people to hear this album,” Taylor enthused. “It chews up that first record and spits it out.
“It’s more dialled-in with everything people expect from me, so it’s got hints of ‘CMFT’ but there are also hints of Slipknot, Stone Sour and all the stuff I’ve done in my acoustic shows. It’s got everything for everybody. People are going to f---ing lose it.”
Corey Taylor will support the release of ‘CMF2’ with an extensive North American tour in late summer and early autumn with special guests Wargasm, Oxymorrons and Luna Aura. There are currently no UK dates scheduled.
Corey Taylor’s band consists of Zach Throne (rhythm/lead guitars), Dustin Robert (drums), Christian Martucci (rhythm/lead guitars) and Eliot Lorango (bass).

Nameless Ghoul Aether unmasked
In May 2022, Yorkshire musician Chris Catalyst revealed he had been masquerading as the Nameless Ghoul Aetha on Ghost's tours. Following the final arena date of Ghost's European Imperatour at László Papp Budapest Sports Arena in Hungary, Catalyst shared a group photo backstage and wrote: "Amaaaazing tour with our wonderful Ghost family. I suppose that's that particular cat out of the bag. So great to be doing this again. Playing this fantastic music with these brilliant people makes me run out of superlatives." In June 2023, Catalyst confirmed he's no longer a touring member of Ghost.
Nameless Ghoul Fire unmasked
Chris Catalyst's end of tour photo also confirmed that Ghost's Nameless Ghoul lead guitarist, Fire (formerly Alpha), is former Bloodbath guitarist Per Eriksson. Fans have also given the Swedish musician's character the nickname Sodo.
John 5 unmasked
When he's performing live with Rob Zombie, guitarist John 5 wears makeup and masks onstage, including this Aliens-esque guise at Download Festival in 2014. The 52-year-old musician has recently been recruited as a touring member of Mötley Crüe and he's performing sans makeup on stage.
Richie Sambora unmasked
In February 2023, former Bon Jovi guitarist Richie Sambora was unveiled as Jacket Potato on ITV show The Masked Singer. Speaking about his involvement in the show, Richie Sambora said: "It took a little getting used to (singing in a potato), but once I put it on, that was it! It's a wild reality when you do this show, it's a gas. Everyone has treated me so good here. I've had a ball! It's been a lot of fun."
