Christmas on Planet Rock

All the info you need for our festive schedule. Like the Radio Times, but not missing down the back of the sofa.

Over the Christmas period, we're looking back at some of the best shows from the past 12 months, as well as providing the soundtrack as we enter 2018.

Lord knows it's hard enough keeping track of time in the confusing foodfest that is the period in between Christmas and New Year, so to make it easy for everyone (ourselves included), here's the rundown of all the special shows you can hear on Planet Rock across that time.

23rd December: 6pm - Joe Elliott brings you a special festive edition of his show, with some seasonal tunes close to his heart.

24th December:
6pm - Danny Bowes has a festive edition of his show, along with the usual Pocket Money picks. We don't know about a white Christmas, but there will definitely be some Thunder...
7pm - My Planet Rocks: Bill Bailey. The most metal man in comedy stops by for a hilarious hour discussing his favourite tunes and musical influences.

Christmas Day:
2pm - 4pm - The Festive Best of The Hairy Rock Show. Si and Dave's best bits from the year, with a seasoning of Christmas cheer!
6pm - Bruce Dickinson: What Does This Button Do? Another chance to hear Iron Maiden's frontman telling anecdotes from his autobiography, and playing plenty of Maiden naturally!
11pm - Planet Rock Plays It In Full. AC/DC's 'Back In Black'. Do we need a reason to play one of the greatest albums of all time? Nope!

Boxing Day: 6pm - Brian May: Queen In 3D. We bring you another highlight from 2017, with Brian May presenting his own one-off show, playing his favourite Queen tracks, inspired by his own photos of the band throughout the years.

27th December: 6pm - My Planet Rocks: Mick Fleetwood. The legendary Fleetwood Mac drummer came in for a typically entertaining chat with Wyatt earlier this year.

28th December: 6pm - My Planet Rocks: Stewart Copeland. Drummer for The Police, soundtrack composer, multi-instrumentalist. Stewart Copeland has more strings to his bow than most. Here he discusses his varied musical influences.

29th December:
10am - The Best Rock Album of 2017. Our presenters and writers have nominated theirs in Issue 5 of Planet Rock Magazine, but now Wyatt counts down the best albums released in 2017, as voted for by you lot!
6pm - My Planet Rocks: Royal Blood. It's safe to say Mike Kerr and Ben Thatcher have had a meteoric few years. Hear them chat about their influences and play their favourite tracks.

30th December: 10pm - The New Rock Show 2017 Review. Wyatt looks back at the best new music to have emerged in 2017.

New Year's Eve:
7pm - Planet Rock New Year's Party. 6 hours of floor-fillers, presented by our full roster of DJs! Listen here.
1am - Foo Fighters Live at The O2. Back in September, the Foos played a storming set in a sold-out O2. We bring you extended highlights of that gig.

From all the team here at Planet Rock, thanks for listening in 2017, attending our gigs, getting in touch, making us laugh every day, and just generally helping us be the UK's biggest rock station. Wishing you all a merry Christmas and a happy New Year!

See you in 2018 for more fun stuff!
