Chad Smith Won't Tour With Chickenfoot

Drummer confirms he won\'t play with Chickenfoot in 2011 BUT he will be on the road with the Chili Peppers

Chad Smith has confirmed that he will not be touring with Chickenfoot next year as he will be on the road with his day-job, the Red Hot Chili Peppers.

Speaking to Music Radar the drummer revealed that he should be able to complete the album with his supergroup bandmates but he will on the road with the Chilis all next year.

"I can’t play in both bands next year. Believe me, I’d love to play with Chickenfoot, and I’m pretty certain I’ll be able to finish the second record. I’m really excited to get deeper into the mussy with those guys. Touring, though? I don’t see how.

"Chickenfoot started out as this fun thing to do, then it just got bigger and bigger. Everybody loves it — I love it, too. We have the best time together. But I got this other group. The Peppers have festival dates booked for the summer of 2011 already.”

Chickenfoot are due to reconvene to record their new album later this year, put the record out early in 2011 and then hit the road next spring / summer.

Meanwhile, the Chili Peppers are said to be halfway through their brand new studio album.

The record – the band’s tenth studio album - will be their first with new guitarist Josh Klinghoffer who replaced John Frusciante last year. It will also be their first since 2006.

"We're probably halfway through the record," Smith told MusicRadar.com. "I think we've tracked about 20 songs already, and there's a few more left to do. Then we'll whittle them down to make the best record.

"We always cut a lot of songs and see which ones rise and which ones fall - that's just how we like to work. But the new one won't be a double album like 'Stadium Arcadium', I can tell you that."

"We'd like to try to deliver the album in March," he continued. "We're definitely hoping to have it out by next summer. It's been a long time in coming."
