CD To Disappear In Five Years
The boss at HMV believes that CDs are a dying format
In an interview with The Sun (via Gigwise), HMV's Chief Executive has predicted that shows will stop selling CDs within the next five years.
Simon Fox said the market would be worth just £300million by 2014 - down from £900million in 2010.
By 2016, stocks of CDs will have faded from the shelves at HMV, he told The Sun.
"There will be a place for CDs, but it's difficult to see out more than five years,” he added.
The CD market reached its peak in 2004, but has since faced competition from the advent of digital downloads.
HMV has already started to refocus its stores towards technology products such as headphones and digital music players.
What do you think? Are CDs heading the way of the 8-Track or can it survive the onslaught of the digital age?
