Cale Says No To Underground Reunion

People would think he was cynical if art-rockers reunited

John Cale has ruled out any possibility of reuniting with his former band, The Velvet Underground.

Speaking to the BBC Cale revealed that money wouldn’t persuade him and that without Sterling Morrison it couldn’t happen anyway.

"It's not something that I can see happening on the basis of the past," he explained. "Anyone who wants to reform The Velvet Underground for a series of concerts, to make some money, I understand that, but you can't do that."

He added: "We don't have Sterling any more. If I said that was something I was intrigued by, people would think I was cynical."

"I haven't spoken to Lou in a long time, but we're in touch because of business," he explained. "There's no communal effort to enjoy each other's company any more."

Cale was speaking ahead of his performance of his Paris 1919 album at the South Bank in London this Friday.

He is to be backed by the Heritage Orchestra for the one-off show at the Royal Festival Hall on Friday 5 March, where he will perform the whole of the 1973 classic in full.
