Burned Hendrix Strap Goes On Sale

You could own a piece of rock n roll history

Published 13th Jul 2011

The Gotta Have Rock And Roll auction kicks off in the US later today and bidding takes place until 22 July.

According to the website the strap was the one from the guitar at the Monterey Pop Festival in 1967 which Hendrix famously set on fire, producing one of the most enduring rock images of all time. The auction house says that the strap was caught by an audience member during the performance.

You may need to start saving your pennies very quickly, though, as the starting price on the strap is $50,000.

Other items on sale include a signed Hofner bass guitar from Sir Paul McCartney, a used and signed Bruce Springsteen guitar, worn Elvis Presley costumes and U2's Grammy Award for 'Where Streets Have No Name'.
