Already an outspoken critic of the billionaire businessman turned politician, The Boss aimed his most caustic words yet at Trump in an interview with Channel 4.

Criticising Trump's claims at a Wisconsin rally that the US presidential election is “rigged”, Bruce said: “The trouble at the moment is you have Donald Trump, who is talking about rigged elections.

"He has a feeling he’s going to lose now, which, of course, he’s going to lose… and he knows that… and he’s such a flagrant, toxic narcissist that he wants to take down the entire democratic system with him if he goes.”

Bruce continued: “He’s such an unreflective person. He simply has no sense of decency, no sense of responsibility about him.

“The words that he’s been using over the past several weeks really are an attack on the entire democratic process… I think it’s very dangerous.

“He does have a lot of people’s ears, and I don’t think he’s going to go quietly, gently into the good night, I think he’s going to make a big as mess as he can, and I don’t know what that’s going to mean, but we’ll find out shortly.”

In a separate interview with the BBC, Bruce dubbed Trump as a “conman” who is "playing" with people.

“Part of what’s going on is you have 30 or 40 years of deindustrialisation and globalisation of the economy so there were a lot of people left out of that whose voices have been fundamentally ignored and not heard,” Bruce said.

“These are folks who feel that Donald Trump has been listening to them and speaks for them on some level. I think he’s a conman, they’re getting played.

“If I couldn’t play music tomorrow and I had to find some other line of work I have no idea in the world what I’d do, y’know. I’d drift. I think there’s a lot of folks who feel left behind by history who neither party has addressed their concerns.”

Bruce is conducting interviews in the UK to promote his autobiography and accompanying album ‘Chapter and Verse’, both of which are available to buy now.
