Bruce Springsteen photograph book limited to just 1978 copies announced

A limited-edition book of photographs of Bruce Springsteen taken by acclaimed photographer Frank Stefanko is being released this autumn.

Published 26th Apr 2017

Bruce Springsteen: Further Up The Road celebrates Stefanko's collaboration of 40 years (1978-2017) as a photographer with Bruce and contains a veritable smorgasbord of largely unseen photos of The Boss from throughout this period.

It also includes an introduction from Bruce himself, text by Stefanko and forewords by fellow photographers Danny Clinch (the photographer behind the ‘Devils & Dust’, ‘The Rising’, ‘The Seeger Sessions’ and ‘Working on a Dream’ covers) and Eric Meola (‘Born To Run’ and ‘The Promise’).

Limited to just 1,978 numbered copies in total, Bruce Springsteen: Further Up The Road is signed by Stefanko and will be published in a deluxe and collection format via Wall of Sound Editions in November 2017. Fans with deep pockets will be available to pre-order it from next Tuesday (2nd May).

Stefanko’s iconic photos adorn the covers of 1978’s ‘Darkness on the Edge of Town’ and 1980’s ‘The River’, while, more recently, his shot of Bruce perched on a Corvette adorned the cover of the his ‘Born To Run’ autobiography and its accompanying album ‘Chapter and Verse’.

Bruce said: "Frank’s photographs were stark. His talent was he managed to strip away your celebrity, your artifice, and get to the raw you. His photos had a purity and a street poetry to them. They were lovely and true, but they weren’t slick.

“Frank looked for your true grit and he naturally intuited the conflicts I was coming to terms with. His pictures captured the people I was writing about in my songs and showed me the part of me that was still one of them. We had other cover options but they didn’t have the hungriness of Frank’s pictures.”
