Iron Maiden frontman Bruce Dickinson is on course for his highest charting solo album in the UK with ‘The Mandrake Project.’

Bruce Dickinson’s first record in 19 years, ‘The Mandrake Project’, is sitting very pretty at Number 2 at the midweek stage, according to Official Chart Company figures.

Released to widespread critical acclaim, 'The Mandrake Project' boasts the Planet Rock playlisted anthems ‘Rain on the Graves’ and ‘Afterglow of Ragnarok.'

Currently standing in Bruce’s way at the chart summit are former Oasis and Stone Roses members Liam Gallagher and John Squire with their debut collaborative album ‘Liam Gallagher & John Squire.’

If ‘Liam Gallagher & John Squire’ fends off the stiff competition from Bruce Dickinson, it will be Gallagher’s 14th chart-topping album as a member of Oasis and a solo act.

Whatever happens in the chart battle by the end of the week, it’s highly likely that Bruce will score his first ever solo Top 10 record on home shores.

Bruce’s previous highest-charting album was his 1990 debut ‘Tattooed Millionaire’, which peaked at Number 14.

As a member of Iron Maiden, Bruce Dickinson has had five UK Number 1 albums – ‘The Number of the Beast’, ‘Seventh Son of a Seventh Son’, ‘Fear of the Dark’, ‘The Final Frontier’ and ‘The Book of Souls’ – and one chart-topping single with ‘Bring Your Daughter... to the Slaughter.’

To celebrate the release of ‘The Mandrake Project’, Bruce Dickinson was the very special guest on Breakfast with Paul Anthony last Friday (1st March). You can watch their full chat right here:
