Bret Michaels Launches $50m Lawsuit Against The Tonys
He's suing over 2009 incident
The infamous incident at the Tony Awards in 2009 saw a performing Bret Michaels being hit in the face by some descending scenery as he went to exit the stage.
As well as some fairly serious facial injuries, there was some embarrassment as the incident was included in the TV broadcast before it became a big hit on the internet.
Classic Rock Magazine reports that the lawsuit claims that organisers "could have prevented the footage from airing... via the standard seven-second broadcast delay.”
The suit adds: "The defendants took no such measures – presumably because the incident would lead to greater publicity and ratings for the show.”
Michaels - who says he also suffered "humiliation when video of the incident immediately spread across the Internet” – is suing for up to $50 million.
This is Michaels’ second lawsuit against the Tony Awards producers after last year claiming damages from the producers who he claimed were ultimately responsible for the brain haemorrhage and mild stroke he suffered after the incident.
