Bon Jovi keyboardist David Bryan's Princess Diana musical heads to Broadway

David Bryan co-wrote the Diana musical alongside Joe DiPietro and the Bon Jovi rocker also created all of the music.

Bryan previously scooped two prestigious Tony Awards for his stage show Memphis in 2010.

Performances of Diana will commence at the Longacre Theater on Monday 2nd March 2020, with an official opening date set for 31st March.

A plot synopsis reads: “Diana is the electrifying new musical about a woman who chose to be fearless, and as a result became timeless.

“When Lady Diana Spencer married Prince Charles, she instantly became a cultural phenomenon. Leading fiercely with her heart, Princess Diana stood up for her family, her country and herself. She defied expectations, she rocked the royals and she created a legacy that will endure forever.”

Diana is directed by Tony winner Christopher Ashley (Come From Away) with choreography by Tony nominee Kelly Devine (Rock of Ages) and music supervision and arrangements by Ian Eisendrath (Come From Away).

It stars Jeanna de Waal as Diana, Roe Hartrampf as Prince Charles, Erin Davie as Camilla Parker Bowles, and Judy Kaye as Queen Elizabeth II.

Before Broadway, Diana ran at the La Jolla Playhouse in San Diego.

Speaking about the musical in 2017, David Bryan said: “It goes from when she was a little girl right up to the divorce. We look at this idea of being a fairy tale princess and then what the realities of that were.

“Joe had been looking at an article and it occurred that no one had done a musical, certainly on our side of the pond.

“We were around the same age and she was absolutely huge in America.”

Bon Jovi played UK stadium shows in Liverpool, London and Coventry in June as part of the European leg of the This House Is Not For Sale Tour.
