Bob Seger To Debut New Song Today

Billboard.com reports that the single, 'Downtown Train', will make its debut at some point today via Bob Seger's official website.

The song will air on US radio today and will apparently be placed on Seger's website for all to hear.

'Downtown Train' is a Tom Waits cover that Seger originally intended to record in the late-80s. However, his cover was shelved when Rod Stewart also took on the song for his 1989 collection Storyteller - The Complete Anthology

Allegedly there was a little bad-blood between Stewart and Seger for many years over this song after Seger accused Stewart of stealing his idea to record it. The story goes that Seger played Stewart his version of the song in a studio in LA in 1989.  "The next thing I knew, a month later he recorded "Downtown Train" in London and two months later he recorded it in the same studio I recorded it in Los Angeles," Seger said. Stewart and his representatives have long denied that he stole the idea to record "Downtown Train," and any hard feelings have settled over the years. Stewart offered an olive branch of sorts by recording Seger's "Still the Same" as the title track of his 2006 covers album "Still the Same...Great Rock Classics of Our Time."

Seger recently announced his first North American tour for 4 years, with 17 dates already confirmed and more to be revealed.
