Not only has he been inducted, but Dylan was made an honorary member of the Academy.

The musician, however, was unable to attend the ceremony on Wednesday due to his touring schedule. He instead sent his regrets in a statement, in which he thanked the academy for the honour - adding that he "looked forward to meeting all of you, sometime soon."

The keynote speaker, novelist Michael Chabon, stated that "Song lyrics have arguably mattered more to me than writers of prose and poetry" and that "The question of whether or not Dylan's lyrics are poetry feels irrelevant."
