Bob Dylan Concert Decision Delayed In China
Singer bids to put on shows in Communist country in April
Despite having a few shows pulled in China last year, Dylan seems determined to play there after he submitted an application to play some gigs in the Communist country in April as part of his Asian tour.
Last year shows in Shanghai and Beijing were pulled after an apparent dispute between the band and a Taiwanese promoter. The promoter, however, claims that the shows were cancelled after the Chinese Ministry of Culture had demanded that Dylan pledge not to hurt the feelings of the Chinese people during his shows.
The Chinese government has a history of preventing Western pop and rock shows in the country for political reasons. Speculation is that Dylan may be considered a dangerous figure to the Chinese government for his involvement in protest movements during the Sixties and his anti-war lyrics.
