53-year-old Ricky first revealed he’d been hospitalised on New Year’s Eve when he shared a photo of himself on Instagram throwing the devil horns from a hospital bed after undergoing a “small procedure”.

Two days ago, he shared a second photo of himself after taking a downward turn. He wrote: “More wires than Thunderbirds!!! Spent 4 of the last 5 nights in hospital .. with a partially collapsed lung !!! Not really how I was expecting 2020 to start tbh!?!?”

Now, Ricky has posted a third update and has confirmed he’s been diagnosed with pleurisy – a condition which causes inflammation of the tissue between the lungs and the ribcage.

Alongside a beaming photo, Ricky wrote: “Wee update from the hospital. I’ve been finally after numerous tests been diagnosed with Pleurisy of the right lung.. a form of pneumonia.

“I’m still in hospital and probably will be for another couple of days... I’m feeling a little better everyday but it’s a slow process ... but compared to some poor souls I’ve nothing too much to complain about. Never been in hospital overnight in my life until I came down with this ... I suppose 53 not out is a good run so far!!

“I want to say thank you from the bottom of my heart for all the lovely kind messages of support you’ve all sent me, it’s very humbling and has cheered me up no end. THANK YOU ALL... and hopefully normal service will be resumed soon.”

After playing a triumphant Planet Rock presents tour across the UK last October, Black Star Riders will headline Stonedead Festival at Newark Showground on 29th August 2020

Everyone at Planet Rock wishes Ricky Warwick a speedy recovery.
