Black Sabbath are Download Festival 2016 Saturday headliners

The founders of metal bring it back home!

It must be a symptom of the universe - the stars have aligned! The band who started it all, at the spiritual home of rock, on their final tour.

Black Sabbath have been unveiled as the Saturday night headliners of Download 2016, nearly five decades on from their beginnings in Birmingham. The slot is part of their last ever tour entitled “The End”, which will see their biggest production to date.

Ozzy said: “Download is my absolute favourite summer festival. It’s always like coming home. See you all there!”

Tony Iommi told us about the tough choice of a set list: “You can't go on and play for two and a half, three hours! We’ve gotta do the songs that people want to hear, and a lot of them are the hits."

He then added tantalisingly: “We’re talking now actually, I’ve been in touch with Ozzy, “What do we all fancy doing?” and it would be nice to do some songs that we haven’t played for such a long time, as well as the regular hits. That’d be interesting I think, to do that, and I think the fans would like it too."

Darn straight we would! 'Shock Wave', anyone?

You can get tickets for Download Festival 2016 on Friday 23rd October 9am from the Planet Rock Ticket Store
