Classic Rock Magazine reports that Butler and original manager Ian Grant have parted ways with the Scottish band.

Butler has been replaced by former Simple Minds four-stringer Derek Forbes who joins the line-up which consists of Alarm frontman Mike Peters, founding members Bruce Watson and Mark Brzezicki plus Bruce’s son Jamie.

Big Country say in a statement: "We have been very appreciative of the efforts by original manager Ian Grant and departing bass player Tony Butler, who have both been very gracious and supportive of the new direction the band wish to follow.

"We would also like to extend heartfelt thanks to all fans and family associated with the band for their support and understanding over the last few weeks in what has appeared – outwardly at least – to be fractious, and at times confusing.

"Everything is now back on track. Let’s turn our thoughts to the future and the beginning of a new and exciting journey.”

The band will be giving their new line-up a debut at a free show in Inverness on New Year's Eve.
