Saxon's Biff Byford cancels April 2020 UK tour
Biff has recorded a video message for fans
Saxon frontman Biff Byford has cancelled his upcoming April 2020 UK solo tour.
In a very honest video message to fans, Biff has confirmed that the tour cancellation is down to poor ticket sales, which may or may not have been exacerbated by the coronavirus.
“My solo tour, the tickets haven’t sold – we haven’t sold any tickets for the past week, it’s virtually stopped,” Biff said.
“The promoters have asked me to cancel the tour and put it back to later on. I don’t know whether it’s because of the coronavirus and people are nervous about buying tickets in April or whether Saxon are out there too much. The tickets have stopped selling in the last week, week-and-a-half. It’s sad.”
In another statement, Biff said: “The honest truth is the tickets for the forthcoming tour have just not sold as everyone expected for whatever reason, so we have cancelled the dates as scheduled with a view to hopefully re-visiting at a later date.
"It’s sad as I was looking forward to the spoken word & live band show but it’s just not to be at this time. I want to thank everyone who bought the album and supported me. Keep the faith and see you on the road with Saxon.”
Biff Byford was due to play a total of 10 UK shows next spring opening at Gateshead Sage 2 on 17th April and calling in at Birmingham, Glasgow, Leeds, Bath, Liverpool, Aberdare, Milton Keynes, London and Brighton.
The shows were going to take an “evening with” format and be split into two halves - the first half a spoken word show compered by US comedian Don Jamieson, and the second a live show featuring Biff and his solo band.
Biff Byford released his debut solo album ‘School of Hard Knocks’ on Friday 21st February via Silver Lining Music.
Saxon’s trio of UK shows in Glasgow, London and Manchester later this month are still going ahead as planned.
