The Hollywood Vampires feature Alice, Joe Perry, Dave Grohl and more!

Published 5th Aug 2015

Check out this for a supergroup lineup: Alice Cooper, Joe Perry, Johnny Depp, Dave Grohl, Brian Johnson, Slash, Paul McCartney, Joe Walsh, Robbie Krieger, Zak Starkey, Perry Farrell, Kip Winger.

Even Sir Christopher Lee contributed to the album before his passing, with a spoken-word introduction fittingly titled, 'The Last Vampire'.

So, what's it all about? Back in the 1970s there was a club so exclusive, that only a very few, very drunk, people were admitted to its ranks.

Upstairs at the Rainbow on Sunset Strip, was where Alice Cooper, Keith Moon, Jim Morrison, Bernie Taupin and passing rockstars of note (think Hendrix, Lennon, Marc Bolan), would meet up and drink. They were named The Hollywood Vampires, and the initiation was very simple:

“To join the club, one simply had to out-drink all of the members” - Alice Cooper

Three years ago, Alice and Johnny Depp got together and decided the spirit of the Hollywood Vampires should live again (minus the drinking). Joining up with Joe Perry, who is an old friend of both, they began recording sessions with a load of rock legends as a tribute to the original Hollywood Vampires.

Helmed by legendary Alice Cooper producer Bob Ezrin, the group recorded tracks by their best friends and heroes, as well as two original songs 'Raise The Dead' _and '_Dead Drunk Friends'

Bernie Taupin, in the liner notes eloquently pays tribute to what sounds like a debauched clubhouse... “I’m not here to defend their vices. Over-indulgence of any sort does not ultimately constitute for a healthy mind and body. And while on the periphery of those involved, wives may have come and gone, career choices may have been deemed dubious, and heartbreak in some cases stalked a dark corridor, but in the lair of the Hollywood Vampires only joy and laughter reigned.”

The tracklisting for the album, out Sept 11th is:
