Alice Cooper shares his thoughts on Axl Rose joining AC/DC

Our own shock rock icon initially thought it was an April Fool’s joke

Alice has heaped praise on AC/DC’s decision to draft in Axl Rose as a replacement for Brian Johnson.

Like many, the Planet Rock DJ initially reacted in disbelief to the news on Sunday morning, however he soon changed his mind.

"At first I thought it was an April Fool's thing," said Alice, "I went, 'Oh, come on.' Then I started thinking about it and said, 'You know, his voice is absolutely perfect for that band. That might just work.' I just think that's such a unique combination. "

Axl will front AC/DC for all their scheduled 2016 touring commitments on both sides of the Atlantic, including their June gigs at London Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park and Manchester Etihad Stadium.

Alice added to Rolling Stone: "Whoever has tickets to (the tour) has got the golden ticket, because who doesn't want to see that?"

As a tantalising taster, Angus Young joined forces with Guns n’ Roses at Coachella Festival in California at the weekend where they performed the AC/DC classics ‘Whole Lotta Rosie’ and ‘Riff Raff’. You can see the video here.

In other Alice Cooper news, Hollywood Vampires – featuring Alice, Johnny Depp, Joe Perry, Matt Sorum, Tommy Henriksen and Bruce Witken – are heading out on an extensive North American tour this July.

In August and October, he’ll then head out on the Spend The Night With Alice Cooper tour in America and Canada.

Listen to Alice on Planet Rock, Mondays at 7pm and Tuesdays - Fridays at 10pm.
