Founded in 1969, the honour recognises the work and lives of composers and lyricists who create music from around the world. To be eligible, songwriters must be a published writer for a minimum of 20 years with a notable catalogue of hit songs.

Divided into two categories - Non-Performing Songwriters and Performing Songwriters – the inductees are decided by voting members who will pick three artists in each category and submit them by 17th December.

The songwriters with the most votes will be inducted at the Annual Induction & Awards Gala on 14th June 2018 in New York City.

The Performing Songwriters nominees are as follows:

Alice Cooper
John Mellencamp
Tom Waits
Mariah Carey
Tracy Chapman
Jimmy Cliff
Tom T. Hall
Chrissie Hynde
The Isley Brothers
Alan Jackson

Don’t forget, Alice Cooper plays a total of five headline UK arena dates this month supported by The Mission and The Tubes. Alongside the full Alice Cooper performance, the shows will also feature a mini-set with his original band members Dennis Dunaway, Neal Smith and Michael Bruce.
