Alice Cooper joining forces with original band mates on new album

Planet Rock’s very own Alice Cooper has joined forces with members of his original band for his upcoming 27th studio album.

Teaming up with Alice Cooper band members Mike Bruce, Dennis Dunaway and Neal Smith, Alice says he’s looking back to his acclaimed 1971 album ‘Killer’ for inspiration and, just like that record, all four of them are contributing to the song writing process.

“I wrote three or four songs with Neil Smith (drums) and Mike Bruce (guitars),” Alice told The Weekender.

“And so we worked together in Phoenix for about two weeks just writing songs and demoing songs. And you never know which ones are going to make the album, but I said let’s do that.”

Alice added: “Dennis Dunaway (bass) wrote two or three things. We haven’t seen those yet, but I know Dennis has always written great stuff. It’s fun to go back and work with guys you haven’t worked with in awhile. It’s not trying to recapture your youth. It’s trying to recapture a sound. And it’s a very elusive sound.”

The Alice Cooper band formed in 1968 and recorded seven albums before splitting in 1975. Vince Furnier adopted the Alice Cooper moniker and used it for his first solo album ‘Welcome to My Nightmare’ onwards.

Dunaway (‘A Runaway Train’), Bruce (‘When Hell Comes Home’) and Smith (‘I'll Bite Your Face Off’) contributed a song each to Alice’s last record, 2011’s ‘Welcome 2 My Nightmare’.

They also played together last October in Dallas at a signing of bassist Dennis Dunaway's brilliantly titled book ‘Snakes! Guillotines! Electric Chairs! My Adventures In The Alice Cooper Group.’

Alice headlines the Stone Free Festival at London’s O2 Arena on Saturday 18th June sharing a bill with The Darkness, Apocalyptica, Blackberry Smoke, Therapy? and more.
