Shock rock legend and Planet Rock presenter Alice Cooper has had a day declared in his name in the city of Milwaukee.

Ahead of Alice Cooper’s sold-out show at the 5,000 capacity BMO Harris Pavilion in Milwaukee on Friday night, Milwaukee mayor Tom Barrett proclaimed 1st October as ‘Alice Cooper Day.’

Explaining his decision, Mayor Tom Barrett said he was inspired by the scene in 1992 movie Wayne’s World when Alice gives a starstruck Wayne Campbell and Garth Algar a history lesson about Milwaukee.

Mayor Tom Barrett tweeted: “If you are a Milwaukeean, you cannot forget @alicecooper’s Milwaukee history lesson to characters Wayne and Garth in the 1992 movie "Wayne’s World," where he coined the phrase ‘Mil-ee-wau-kay.’

“The Godfather of shock rock and stage theatrics, @alicecooper has entertained countless Milwaukee fans since his first Wisconsin show in 1973. I welcome him back to the “good land" today by proclaiming October 1 as "Alice Cooper Day" throughout the City of Milwaukee.”

In the iconic Wayne’s World scene, when Wayne asks Alice if he comes to Milwaukee often, he replies: “Well, I'm a regular visitor here, but Milwaukee has certainly had its share of visitors. The French missionaries and explorers were coming here as early as the late 1600s to trade with the Native Americans.”

When his band member Pete suggests Milwaukee is an Indian name, Alice continues: “Yes, Pete, it is. Actually, it's pronounced ‘mill-e-wah-que’ which is Algonquin for ‘the good land.’”

After Alice invites them to hang backstage, the famous Wayne’s World scene ends with Wayne and Garth on their knees chanting “we’re not worthy!”

Last month, Alice Cooper had a street in his birth state of Michigan named after him.

Alice personally attended the unveiling of Alice Cooper Court at former psychiatric hospital-turned tourist attraction the Eloise Asylum, once the United States’ largest psychiatric facility.

Don't forget, Alice Cooper is joining forces with The Cult for a co-headline UK arena tour in May and June 2022.

The six-date tour opens at Swansea Arena on Monday 23rd May 2022 and then calls in at London The O2, Manchester AO Arena, Glasgow The SSE Hydro and Birmingham Resorts World Arena before culminating at Leeds First Direct Arena on Wednesday 1st June 2022.

Tickets are on sale from Planet Rock Tickets now.
