Alice Cooper announces 27th studio album ‘Paranormal’ ft. Deep Purple, ZZ Top and U2 stars

Planet Rock’s very own Alice Cooper has unleashed details of his 27th studio album ‘Paranormal’.

Published 11th May 2017

As revealed last year, the album sees Alice reunite with Alice Cooper band guitarist Michael Bruce, bassist Dennis Dunaway and drummer Neal Smith.

It’s now also been confirmed that it will feature guest spots from Deep Purple's Roger Glover, U2's Larry Mullen Jr. and ZZ Top’s bearded maestro Billy Gibbons.

The follow-up to 2011's 'Welcome 2 My Nightmare', ‘Paranormal’ will be released on Friday 28th July on earMUSIC on 2CD Digipak, 2LP, Limited Box Set and Digital formats.

Boasting 12 tracks, the album was recorded in Nashville with long-time collaborator Bob Ezrin and features a very special bonus CD – a mini-album consisting of three brand new songs written and recorded together with Dennis, Neal and Michael alongside carefully selected live recordings.

Larry Mullen Jr.’s collaboration came about after producer Bob Ezrin made the suggestion, as Alice explains: "Bob Ezrin and I sat there, and Bob says, 'What do you think about Larry Mullen on drums?' And I went, 'That's a great idea. It'll change things up so much on just the basic tracks.'"

Reflecting upon Larry’s unconventional recording process, Alice added to Eddie Trunk: "Larry said, 'I wanna see the lyrics.' I said, 'Really?' He said, 'Yeah, I play to the lyrics. I don't play to the bass.' And I said, 'That is so cool — just the idea that you're interpreting the lyrics on the drums.' So that totally makes the album another album."

Fellow rock legend Billy Gibbons lends his idiosyncratic guitar playing to a track called "I've Fallen In Love And I Can't Get Up’.

Alice said: "After we cut the record, I went, 'If Billy Gibbons doesn't play on this, we shouldn't put this one out,' 'cause, I mean, it is so much him. And he got the record, and he said, 'I've got the flu, but, man, this song makes me feel better.' He just killed it."

Alice will follow its release with a five-date arena tour this coming November with The Mission and The Tubes in support. Tickets to all shows are on sale from Planet Rock Tickets now.
