The actors posted a video yesterday evening from the Hollywood Bowl in California where they introduced themselves as their characters’ band, Wyld Stallyns, and confirmed the film is called Bill & Ted 3: Face The Music.

The video ends with the words ‘In Theaters Summer 2020’, however the social media posts are more specific and reveal the release date as 21st August 2020.

Winter says in the clip that the movie is happening because of the fans: “It is all because of you guys and so we owe you a huge debt of gratitude and we wanted to say thank you. And be excellent.”

Screenwriting duo Chris Matheson and Ed Solomon, who wrote 1989’s Bill & Ted's Excellent Adventure and 1991’s Bill & Ted's Bogus Journey, have once again written the script for the movie with Dean Parisot directing.

A plot synopsis for the film reads: “Yet to fulfil their rock and roll destiny, the now middle-aged best friends set out on a new adventure, when a visitor from the future warns them that only their song can save life as we know it and bring harmony to the universe. Along the way, they will be helped by their families, old friends and a few music legends.”

When the project was first announced last year, Reeves and Winter said in a joint statement: “We couldn't be more excited to get the whole band back together again. Chris and Ed wrote an amazing script, and with Dean at the helm we've got a dream team!"

The first two Bill & Ted movies featured songs from KISS, Megadeth, Faith No More, Steve Vai, Richie Kotzen, Extreme and many more.
