Aerosmith Record Without Perry

Four tracks laid down without their lead guitarist

Aerosmith have returned to the studio to start work on their brand new album, but they've done it without their lead guitarist after he missed the first sessions.

According to the NME singer Steven Tyler, guitarist Brad Whitford, bassist Tom Hamilton and drummer Joey Kramer teamed up for a series of jamming sessions at longtime collaborator Marti Frederiksen's studio in Monrovia, California.

They managed to put together four tracks and, according to Frederiksen "It's been really good, great. We've been playing songs, putting together riffs, having fun, laughing and working from noon to 11. We're just digging in, man."

He added: "We're trying to move quick and not necessarily finish up songs and make them complete but just get a lot of stuff to choose from."

Perry's absence has thus far been unexplained.

In other Aerosmith news, it seems that Steven Tyler's stint as a judge on American Idol has given sales of the band's songs a boost in the US, pushing two of their songs ('I Don't Want To Miss A Thing' and 'Dream On') back into the upper reaches of the iTunes charts.
