The 1975 track 'It's a Long Way to the Top (If You Want to Rock and Roll)' has been added to the National Registry of Recorded Sound in Australia.

It is one of a handful of songs to be added to the registry along with with Tender Prey by Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds (1988) and Aether by The Necks (2001). There is also a 1972 recording of Barry Humphries and the actor Dick Bentley singing Along the Road to Gundagai and Is'e an Aussie Is'e Lizzie, with a B side of Dame Edna doing True British Spunk.

The registry honours recordings with cultural, historic and aesthetic significance. From 250,000 sound recordings held in the National Film and Sound Archive, only 64 have made it on to the register since it began in 2007.
