AC/DC & Slash Win Big At Classic Rock Awards

Tune in tonight after 6pm to hear the highlights from last night\'s star studded bash

AC/DC and Slash were big winners at last night’s Classic Rock Roll Of Honour Awards in London.

AC/DC rightly picked up Band Of The Year Award which has seen them complete a two year tour, and headline this year’s Download Festival in the process.

Slash meanwhile picked up the Album of The Year Award for his superb debut solo album.

Hosted by our very own Alice Cooper the evening saw live performances from The Union, Cheap Trick and Alter Bridge, who were joined by Slash.

The Roundhouse saw a ream of music stars on hand to add a little glamour to the occasion, with Jimmy Page presenting the Innovation Award to Killing Joke and Tony Iommi presenting the Metal Guru award to his Sabbath bandmate Geezer Butler.

Geddy Lee picked up the Living Legend award for Rush and John Paul Jones picked up the Outstanding Contribution Award.

An emotional tribute was paid to the late, great Ronnie James Dio with the Tommy Vance Inspiration award  – collected by his widow Wendy – whose powerful voice and command of the iconic ‘devil horns’ hand gesture placed him firmly in the rock and metal canon.

Classic Rock magazine’s Editor In Chief Scott Rowley said: "This year’s award winners include two bands that had a No.1 album in 2010 (The Rolling Stones and AC/DC), a band with one of the most downloaded songs in history (Journey), and a band who just completed the second-highest grossing concert tour in music history (AC/DC again) – all proof that rock music is still the most exciting genre in music.”
