Police are patrolling headlands around Newquay to clamp down on people breaching Covid restrictions.

Officers say groups gathered to wave watch over the weekend as stormy weather whipped up the sea.

Now local teams will be making sure people are following the government guidance and not gathering in groups.

"Many people gathered on the headlands over the weekend to watch the huge waves.

"We will be patrolling headlands today to ensure people are adhering to the Covid-19 restrictions.

"Please stay safe, stay at home, stay local."

It is understood officers and coastguards were called to the scene amid reports of people getting too close.

CoastSafe also posted a warning to locals not to get too close to the coast over the weekend, as huge waves hit.
