Women rescued after getting stuck in mud 20 metres from shoreline in Torpoint

Firefighters and coastguard teams were called to help

Two women have been rescued after getting stuck in mud in Torpoint.

They got into difficulty around 20 metres from the shoreline on Monday afternoon.

Firefighters and coastguard crews were called to the scene just after 3.30pm and used throw lines and inflatable pathways to bring the pair back to safety.

A Cornwall Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson said: "One appliance from Torpoint and the water rescue team from Camels Head along with an Officer from Devon Fire and Rescue Service and one from Cornwall attended this incident.

"The two Fire and Rescue Services worked together to successfully rescue two females from mud approx 20 m from the shoreline.

"The crews used general purpose lines, throw lines and inflatable pathways to reach the females who were uninjured.

"Coastguard were also on scene."
