Firefighters have now been called to three gorse fires in three days on a Cornish peninsula.

Crews from St Keverne rushed to more reports of smoke in the Goonhilly area of the Lizard on Wednesday afternoon.

They had already fought separate blazes on Monday and Tuesday afternoons, with the smoke from one seen for miles.

The first fire one was so large, teams had to call in back-up from Mullion and Helston.

Cornwall Fire & Rescue Service says natural breakers and beaters were used to bring the fire under control.

Posting on social media after Monday's fire, St Keverne Community Fire Station said: "Yesterday afternoon the crew received a call regarding a large gorse fire in the Goonhilly area.

"When on scene a make up message was sent via critical control to make pumps 3 and L4P 2 so 2 further major appliances were mobilised from 3.3 Mullion and 3.4 Helston and a L4P from Mullion.

"Crews used natural fire breaks and beaters to extinguish the flames.

"The incident was closed down and crews returned to their home stations just before 19:00".

The team were later called to two more gorse fires on Tuesday and Wednesday.
