Get your skates on... the Eden Project's ice rink is coming back for Christmas.
The rink is returning for the 17th year running, in front of the famous Cornish biomes.
It will be up and running in time for the half-term holidays, opening on Saturday October 17th, 2020 and running across the festive period through to February 21st, 2021.
Sessions will be 40 minutes long for skaters of any age and ability,
Social distancing safety measures mean that this year the rink will operate with much reduced numbers – so skaters will have more space than ever before.
“We are thrilled to see the return of our spectacular rink for the 17th season running.
“Skating at Eden is much loved by locals and visitors alike and is a fabulous way for everyone to have fun and keep up fitness.
“We are working hard to make sure that skating is as safe as it can possibly be. Reducing the numbers on the rink is the most significant change. This will not only help effective social distancing, it will also allow much more space in which to skate.”
David added: “On the one hand, the great news is that you will have space like never before, so time to try that double Axel jump. On the other hand, we need to warn you that the ice will be as hard as ever!”
Eden Project Executive Director, David Harland
Other safety measures include wearing masks when rink-side and skating in a one-way direction, anti-clockwise. Masks are not required on the ice but may be worn when skating as a matter of choice.
The Eden team will clean throughout the day, sanitising frequently touched surfaces including skates, skating aids and other equipment.
More information:
As well as sessions for solo skaters, Eden offers a Family Fun Skate for parents and young children, including the free use of skating aids. These take place on Sunday mornings from 9am, 10am and 11am, with additional family sessions during school holiday periods. There are also skating sessions for school groups.
The experienced Eden ice stewards will be offering skating lessons again this year. These are for skaters aged six years and above and take place on Wednesday evenings and Saturday mornings.
All skaters can enjoy hot drinks and a selection of sweet treats from the cafe alongside the rink.
Since re-opening on July 4th after national lockdown, Eden has operated a limited general capacity to help maintain distancing and all visitors are now required to pre-book.
Keeping within safe visitor limits, the project has enjoyed a buoyant summer and autumn so far and sees the return of the rink as big added attraction as winter approaches.
Skaters need to pre-book a ticket and also need a valid form of Eden admission, such as Eden Project Membership, Locals’ Pass, Annual Pass or standard admission ticket, and a timed entry slot to visit.
