Tributes are being paid to the Newquay woman who raised more than £50,000 for charity during her brave battle with cancer.

The funeral for Chrissie Jackson is being held later, who passed away on Tuesday 20th July.

It is being described as a 'Celebration of Life' for the passionate sailor, who repeatedly told people to: "Hold your face to the sun and let the shadows fall behind you".

Chrissie's Story

Chrissie Jackson was diagnosed with Stage 4 metastatic cancer in January 2019 and, tragically, was told there was no cure.

However, 48-year-old Chrissie was no ordinary woman.

Through her determination to make the most of every day, she set up Chrissie's Sunshine Appeal to raise money for a raft of good causes, from the RNLI to local animal charities.

She spread her joy and fighting spirit with endeavours like 'Chemo in Cool Places' and 'Trials in Style'.

After moving from Warrington in 2000, Chrissie co-founded the Newquay Voice and served as its photographer for 16 years.

She was passionate about sailing and chosen to be part of a team that raced in the Clipper Round the World Race in 2018, racing from Australia to China before falling ill.

Chrissie raised over £50,000 for nine charities through her Sunshine Appeal and, in 2020, was even named the Westcountry region's Fundraiser of the Year in the Pride of Britain Awards.

Friends and family have described her as a true inspiration.

Chrissie's 'Celebration of Life Service' is being held at St Michael's Church in Newquay at 2pm on Saturday 31st July.

The service is open to all, with those attending being asked to wear cheerful and happy clothing to reflect the celebration of Chrissie's life.

A retiring collection will be for Chrissie's Sunshine Appeal.

There will be donation buckets at the church, however details of how else to make a donation can be found here.
