The RSPCA's appealing for anyone with information about nine missing cats which were apparently let loose in the Godrevy area of Cornwall.

The charity says officers are growing increasingly concerned for the animals' safety and wellbeing.

RSPCA animal rescue officer Betty Burns said: “We’re currently investigating a situation of nine missing cats who we believe were released somewhere on the B3301 outside the Rockpool Pub leading towards the turning up to the National Trust.

"We believe they were released there in the late afternoon on Friday 10th February.

“They are all domestic indoor cats and are unlikely to do well on their own in the wild.

“We are working off very limited information and urgently need the public’s help to figure out what went on, why it happened and where the cats are.

“We are asking members of the public to keep their eyes peeled for any cats in that area. This is not a residential area so it would be very unusual to see a cat wandering around here.

“If anyone thinks they might have seen the cats being released, have recently taken a stray cat in or to the vet, or witnessed anything suspicious on that Friday in the late afternoon, we would urge them to contact us.

"Also if anyone was driving around the area at the time and has any dashcam footage, we would be very grateful if we could see it.”

If anyone has any information about the missing cats, they should contact the RSPCA confidentially either on 0300 123 8018 or the RSPCA Cornwall Branch on 01637 881455.
